I met this young Turkana girl on my way back from Kalobeyei. I was amazed by the connection between her and the baby goat and it immediately took me back to when I was a little boy.

So this specific photo reminds me of how we loved taking care of goats, and how we would celebrate if a goat gives birth. This was not only because we loved baby goats but also coz we loved goat milk a lot more.

So when the camp started long time ago, the refugee and and the host were living so close to each other unlike right now. We were only separated by the seasonal rivers (Laaga). Tarach and Nabek which were still very narrow by then. And sometimes we could pray for the rivers to flow so that we can sleep in our homes away from home. This was actually so much fun. We would play in the river with friends from the other side, we ate together at our homes and we would drink milk from the manyatas. We even had their names and had given almost of them our names. I was Emuria 😃 I remember it so well. We had Morungule, Adhokon, Nyakai, We had a lot of exchange.

I miss how we connected.

For those that have been to Kakuma, which is the one thing that you learnt or loved here.
